I made the jump to self-employment in 2005 with the start-up of my consulting company, Custom Solutions, LLC. I have always had a keen interest in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics and in 2005, my first book, Building Intelligent.NET Applications, was published. I have worked for companies spanning multiple industries, including Health Care, Finance, Retail, Government, Robotics and Information Technology. I have also co-authored several technical books used to prepare software developers taking the Microsoft certification exams and even written product documentation for the Microsoft Office Communications team.
For many years, I was a Microsoft Certified Developer and recognized expert in the field of web development using Microsoft SQL Server. I have published six technical books, along with dozens of online and printed articles. In March of 2007 I was awarded the prestigious Microsoft Most Valued Professional (MVP) award for my work with Microsoft Speech Server and Office Communications Server.
Starting in 2011, I spent two years leading a Technical Team at Venyu to streamline and automate their internal software systems. This involved gaining expertise in cloud-based development using Force.com and Integration tools. During this time, I fell in love with the cloud-based Salesforce.com platform and I have been learning more about it ever since.
In March 2013, I earned the Salesforce Developer Certification and then in 2014 completed all the requirements to earn the Salesforce Advanced Developer Certification. I have written several articles for DeveloperForce.com about integrating .NET with Salesforce and provided consulting support for Salesforce University through ForceMentor.com.
In between all that, I supported several local and remote clients as they continually needed to customize their Salesforce instances to meet their specific business needs. And in 2016 and 2017, I released online courses for Pluralsight called, “Getting Started Building SPAs with Lightning Component Framework“, “Customizing Salesforce Using Lightning Components” and “Lightning Component Development Best Practices“.
Even though I was independent for many years, I was offered a position on the Salesforce Trailhead team in late 2017 that I just couldn’t turn down. For a little over a year, I worked with a team of super bright people doing leading-edge development on the Salesforce platform. I also spoke regularly at official Salesforce events like TrailheadDx and Dreamforce, as well as community events such as Texas Dreamin and Florida Dreamin.
In early 2019, I left my position at Salesforce and joined a small consulting company named Attain, LLC. It was there that I helped develop Salesforce-based applications for Higher Education and Non-Profit clients.
In early 2020, I went back to being Independent and for two years I worked on developing my skills producing digital content. I authored and produced over a dozen courses for Pluralsight. Go here to see all my courses:
I am currently working full-time again for a Salesforce ISV named Full Circle Insights as a Senior Software Engineer. I work with the CEO, CTO, QA engineers, other developers, and product development team to design, develop, test, and maintain Full Circle Insights marketing products on the Salesforce AppExchange. I also assist in creating training both for them to use internally and for outside customers and partners.
